I’ve always been a bit of a writer. The madness, the dedication, the passion that goes into each word and each thought, I’ve always had it. Recently, my grandmother handed me an old mithai ka dabba in which there were hundreds of letters and poems written by my grandfather and his family and friends. I spent the entire day perusing through that box. I used to believe that I only write for myself, you know, to express myself, to ensure my emotions don’t get scattered all over the place. However, my perceptions have slightly changed. While yes, I still do write for the reasons stated above, I also write to make sure that I bestow my past upon my future. That when my future generations read something of mine, they know more about me, they feel closer and connected to me, just like I did with that old box of letters. That’s why I want to write. I’ve explored many fields, written for various causes, and have held many editorial positions. I have written for social justice as the editor of the Interact Club and environmental causes as the editor of Vasundhara, the eco club, of my school. In college, as I am an Economics honours student, I have composed many Economics related articles and opinion pieces for NEETI, the economics magazine of my college, as an editor since the past two years. I also did a mental health based internship with a mental health blog and support group called Love Inaya, where I wrote articles on various mental health topics. I was also a part of a research bootcamp called ProjectUp affiliated with UNESCO and GirlUp, where I wrote a research paper in a span of two weeks. Recently, I have been selected for my college’s creative writing club as well.
